Guest Post – Kate: Was it something I said?

October 8, 2008 · Posted in Election 2008

This is a guest post by my friend Kate, who has something to say to Republicans who knock on people’s doors..

My husband is a registered independent. So we get calls and canvassers wanting to know how he’s going to vote.

I just had a Republican canvasser come to my door. She had only one response to our support of Senator Obama – “What about Ayers?” When I told her that Obama was a child when Ayers was involved in the Weather Underground and that McCain was old enough to know better (even if he can’t remember anymore) she said “but he was with him two years ago.” I pointed out that 2 years ago Ayers wasn’t involved in the Weather Underground; he was working on education issues.

Then I asked her about Todd Palin’s involvement with a group wanting to secede from the US. She had no answer except to repeat “What about Ayers?” I told her I didn’t like the racial hatred Sarah Palin was trying to stir up with her lies. My God, Palin tells so many lies and does it so often she couldn’t find the truth with a GPS and a guide dog. And McCain – please no more with the “I work across the aisle with Joe Leiberman.” For a Republican, working with Joe Leiberman is like doing your own sister – it’s all in the family. I also told her that I didn’t appreciate McCain’s apparent assumption that we women had no brains and would just vote with our vaginas. That’s when she got mad at me (was it something I said – perhaps “vaginas”?), literally ran across the street, and yelled back that I had better be careful what I say. I asked if she was going to turn me in to the FBI. I told her to be sure to spell my name correctly when she does.

I just realized that today I am wearing my old Kerry campaign shirt. I hope that pissed her off too.

Kate doesn’t blog. Yet. So leave a comment here for her, because I just love hearing stories about Republicans being jerks.

I agree with you!! I HATE HATE HATE Republicans. I don't know why we have to even listen to their dribble. Unfortunately, with their stupid "pro-life" stance, they continue to breed. I wish they would abort like we do. Especially that evil Sarah Palin. Doesn't that disgust you that she would dare birth that downe child? That is so repulsive. If she was not such a hick, she would have sucked that kid down the drain. Thank God for people like you that understand this.

And this whole Ayers "terrorist' thing. Big f'ing deal. So what he declared war on the US and tried to kill cops, their families and our soldiers. That was 40 years ago. Are we going to hold Dr. Mengele responsible for something that happened 40 years ago? Thats crazy!! Thank you so much for being on this side!

    Keep up the good work!!
  • Sorry but I don't agree with your tone, and think your comments about her baby - an innocent -i are reprehensible.

I may not agree with her tactics or politics, but could never imagine. Saying what you said.
  • I can't help but disagree with your response here, Karoli. Kate's words above, your own in the past, and the obvious impostor comment above, are all in the same vein.

You too have said some reprehensible things. The faux commenter above just pushed the envelope to reveal the standard tone with your posts.
  • You're entitled to disagree, Trevor. It's mostly a free country. I challenge you to point out anything here where I have been hateful toward john McCain or in any way incited a violent reaction toward them.
  • Um, hello?! What about the post before this one? Loaded with hate.

Additionally, your poor, one-sided interpretation of Scripture only discredits your authority on this blog. I know you're a liberal, theologically speaking, but even a Universalist or an Anglican would call foul on that one.

Oh yeah, and Proverbs 26 more closely applies to Barry, and his one-statement-to-one-crowd-and-another-to-others chitchat. (...hold onto their Bibles and Guns...)

    Your words:
    "...ignorant, booing, cheerleading pompom-wearing idiots..."
    "...war-hero-turned-dishonorable-demagogue running mate..."

    Must I continue?
  • Nope. No hate. Angry, yes. But not hate. Nor did I call on readers to act on my words, nor did I call them nazis or other hateful things. Didn't accuse of terrorism, didn't insinuate lies with a winkie and a nod. Called truth to his dishonor, which he has traded for ambition. That's truth, not hate

Really? Go back and read your posts. Do you not realize the vitriolic hate you and your wonderful guest Kate spew. Please pick up a Bible and read the words in red.
  • Amateur! I say that as someone who's been knocking on doors since 1978, the year I dated my first Young Republican. ;)

They are really desperate. This also demonstrates the difference between the committed, well organized, and trained Obama workers, and the whatever it is the McCain camp has out there.

Kate, you really must blog. This is good.

Way to go Karoli! This woman may have never heard the truth before. It may have scared her but it may come back to haunt her and who knows!? She might wake up!
  • Hah! Priceless story. thanks!!
  • Oh God!

I had a similar encounter the other day with someone at the DBSA convention. This person was all over the ACORN stuff. When I gave her the lowdown on how Obama never worked as an organizer for ACORN and that the story had come out of the mouth of the guy who robbed voters of their right to vote in Ohio, she huffed and said "He's just one man." The whole conversation arose because she was blasting the hospitality room with Fox (Faux) News. "Give me one place that says that Fox News isn't fair and balanced." I gave her several. "I don't have time to chase around all these web sites," she replied.
