Briefings – credentials for bloggers mean media credentials just like print/broadcast media. Some have applied for creds, others not.
Process for application: Been taking cred apps for bloggers since december, receiving many. Accepting apps in two groups. Part of a state blogger corps 4 each of the states and territories, the best of those bloggers known
General blogger pool – folks with more national slant, blogs that cover labor issues, other niche audiences, disability community, etc.
Just like trad media, we’re credentialling bloggers by media outlet, not to individual person, that’s key point.
4/15 deadline, we’re coming to the wire. A few states and territories where no applications received, would love interest from people in that area.
State blogger major news – embedding 1 blogger in Pepsi Center with convention delegates through the whole process. Great opportunity for bloggers to report on the action from localized point of view. Worth noting the published criteria for applications demconvention.com/press/logistics section. Read requirements, see that we fall into categories, and fill in application for creds.
Run-through from bloggers point of view re: workspace, etc. – state bloggers, DNCC press gallery, click the link, fill out the application form.
Cred is for Pepsi Center convention session site only. Need separate creds for candidate hotel, etc. Workspace will be available for bloggers and general filing workspace inside and also in tents/pavilions around building, 200,000 sq ft space around building. Filing centers available for bloggers, sessions via monitor, etc. as well as inside bldg.
Will review applications, will notify in May on application status.
LeConte re: outside Pepsi Center Housing: Official media housing process is closed right now. contact this week if needed — if allocated a room, will have to make a deposit before June 24th. Get into housing system now. Assignments made on rolling basis thru spring, may hear any time between now and 6/24.
Not in a position to fulfill every media housing request. Will do their best to get rooms, then go outside system for rooms. Progress now has some other options. economy, moderate, high end?
ProgressNow/Daily Kos Denver area and non/profits to create new media hub, will be located downtown wifi, bloggers lounge, food, drink, guest speakers, post-convention entertainment tech zone for companies to sponsor. website launchin May including credential criteria. scoutfinch@dailykos.com
Won’t have to be in Denver to cover convention this year. will be tech savvy convention, have committed to live gavel-to-gavel video stream. expect more announcements soon on this.
Many are already on press list, join that press list, send an email to dnccpress@demconvention.com
Separate public email list at demconvention.com
Questions:
Lou Phelps – Comment — very excited about embedding, what about smaller markets like Savannah. Not aware of any dailies in state except for Atlanta. will they consider on state-by-state basis.
A: Will cred one blogger for each state, but if you apply to be a state blogger that’s not your last chance at getting cred into the convention. Limited spots, will roll over open spots to general blogger pool. No decisions made at this time.
Blog reviews begin 4/15 myersa@demconvention.com
Lauren Coleman – re media tent scoutfinch@dailykos.com
Heather – photographs? do we need separate creds for photos? Creds get you in and bring camera with you to take photos for blog. Applications for photo or vid bloggers.
Pittsburgh, PA – what are technorati rankings? Want to encourage blogs with an audience which do report on politics in general
should we submit other stats to support application? Feel free to email him
debra white – liberal politics @about.com mistakenly asked for one pass, needs two. onlineteam@demconvention.com
ryan bryson – extra consideration put to blogs in Denver?
(name unknown) any possibility of state bloggers housed with state delegation? State chairs in charge, contact state chair.
Actual delegation hotels are with state chair, talk to state rep.
Tom McDonald – roving video? what access will there be?
Cred will provide access to many areas — anywhere it gets you will b able to bring video camera
Corinne McDermott – Video? sessions coming in via tv monitors won’t work for vidbloggers. Can we get live feeds or tape? Will be able to get into hall and film directly what’s going on as well as doing tents.
Can we talk to individual delegates from different states? Yes, as far as being on the floor during the convention, different issue, limited space. Large floor area with convention delegates seated, then others around arena.
Temporary access for all media organization. Only entities with seats on the floor are delegations. Set up temporary rotating floor passes for media. If you’re in hallways, on the floor.
Exclusion zone perimeter? Hasn’t been announced yet
Greg McDermott – credentials for event other than Pepsi Center? Are those available? eg. caucus, etc.
Joan @DailyKos – is list for states that haven’t responded still valid? alaska, hawaii, virgin islands, american samoa, dems abroad
haven’t determined how many bloggers. space concerns are the major consideration.
Andre Walker – will free wireless access be available for state bloggers?
Broadcast interferes with wifi. Today don’t know what wifi situation will look like throughout the hall b/c of broadcast concerns. trying to get more info re: internet access in the hall. wireless is a major concern.
Re: standing convention committees will we need additional creds?
Meetings actually take place ahead of the ocnvention with undetermined places right now. No info on dates, locations, times.
John Oldham(?) – applied for State blogging cred (4) what is upper limit for blog? Will grant one to each state blog. doesn’t prevent you from bringing more than one, just one per hall.
