Telco Immunity Request Extends to BEFORE 9/11/2001 – UPDATE
UPDATE: The Senate just finished voting. The Senate voted no to close debate (a victory!) and also no to the 30-day extension to hammer out a compromise (a defeat). However, it looks like the House may be getting its own 30-day extension ready, so it’s possible that some extension of time might be approved later this week. If Bush decides to veto an extension, it will be on his head. Props to Senators Clinton and Obama for leaving their campaigns to vote today.
Wow, I just heard Senator Dodd speak against cloture on CSPAN2. Here’s something we haven’t heard in the reports around this: The wiretap requests went back to BEFORE 9/11. Qwest Communications refused to wiretap without a subpoena before 9/11 happened. We don’t know if AT&T did or not, and we never will if immunity is passed. Call your senator now.
NO IMMUNITY FOR TELECOM SPYING.
