Clinton Spin Evolution In Review

It all moves so fast!
I thought it would be fun to review the evolution of Clinton spin, beginning the day after she was solidly trounced in Iowa:

  1. She didn’t really try in Iowa, and besides, those pesky young voters messed up the results.
  2. The “Even Jesse Jackson won South Carolina” spin
  3. The “Super-Tuesday” Spin: Senator Clinton would have the nomination if it were “winner-take-all”, last-minute deciders came to Clinton, etc.
  4. The “Red States Don’t Matter” Spin: He’s winning the Red States, so what?
  5. The “Texas and Ohio Are Critical” spin: If she doesn’t win Texas and Ohio, it’s over. It all depends on them.
  6. The “Caucus States Don’t Matter” Spin: Caucuses are easier to win than primaries.
  7. The “We Won the Popular Vote in Texas Even If he Got More Delegates” spin, which is accompanied by the “We Lost the County Conventions, but More of Our Delegates Will Show Up at the State Convention” so that she’ll recover what she lost on March 29th.
  8. The “Michigan Should Count Even If My Name was the Only One on the Ballot” Spin
  9. The “Florida Should Count” spin
  10. Obama is outspending me 3-1. No wonder he’s gaining ground; he’s got money and I don’t.
  11. The “I Won Ohio and I won Florida” spin, without regard to the Florida sanctions precluding campaigning in that state.
  12. It all hangs on Indiana.
  13. It’s all about theoretical primary state electoral votes.
  14. Delegates be damned, superdelegates should only care about the cumulative theoretical popular vote, excluding all caucus states which cannot, of course, be counted in the popular vote.

Seems to me that when the spin is examined from a couple of steps back, it looks as ridiculous as it is. Now that Mark Penn has resigned, will Howard Wolfson be able to pick up the slack?

What wild ride will they take us on next?
