Change You Can Believe In?

In tonight’s debate, Hillary Clinton said that lifting passages from others’ speeches was not “change you can believe in; it’s change you can Xerox.”

Didn’t we all change our terminology so that we didn’t Xerox but instead photocopied because Xerox didn’t like the way the brand was used? Well, no matter.

Let’s talk about who has pushed for more change. Clinton with 6 years in Congress or Obama with 2? Well, Grassroots Mom posted an amazing summary of the changes and more importantly, the thoughts behind the changes. She really spent some time researching and I was impressed with how she approached it.

So who did she pick? Barack Obama. Here’s why:

Obama is a leader. With bigger majorities in Congress, much of his agenda should sail through. He can inspire this country to change course on so many things, from health care to global warming, where attitudes have to be changed first. I remember Bill Clinton’s endless laundry lists of small, focus group approved initiatives. For those who say Hillary will not govern like Bill did, I respond that the people who were doing the market testing of his proposed policies were Dick Morris, of course, and Mark Penn, who is now running Hillary’s campaign.

That particular exchange between Hillary and Obama, by the way, was as nasty as it got, and I thought it made her look sarcastic and angry. I have more thoughts on the debate, but first will be cleaning up the live blogs so they’re not full of typos and reversed letters.
