Saddam Hussein is Dead: Be Careful What You Wish For

December 31, 2006 · Posted in Bush Administration, Election 2008 · Comments

This 14-second video is the sole reason George Bush invaded Iraq. Saddam is now dead. Nothing is changed; nothing is different, except this:

  1. Iraq is on the brink of the bloodiest Civil War we will see in modern times
  2. As of this writing, 2,998 Americans are dead, 22,000 wounded.
  3. Bush and his cabal have wasted more than 350 Billion dollars on this folly, with no end in sight and pleas for still more money, more young people to die, more wounded to come home.

Amidst the rejoicing over the Saddam hanging, consider this: In other countries, Bush is seen as much more evil than Saddam ever was. Can you imagine a day where he and his buddy Rumsfeld are brought before a tribunal and tried for crimes against humanity? If he were convicted, would you feel as sure about the rejoicing over Saddam?

I’m no fan of Bush — I think he’s evil, but I don’t want my country’s leader to be tried for crimes against humanity. He just might be guilty, and what a humiliation that would be for all of us as citizens of the United States. Bush should be impeached and the troops brought home before he inflicts even more harm and hurt on his country and the brave soldiers who have been ordered to their deaths so far from home.

Godspeed to the troops and to the people of Iraq who are committed to restoring peace and some semblance of order to their country. I’m hoping 2007 brings substantive change and an end to our incredibly ill-advised involvement in Iraq.

Government-Mandated Wellness?

December 30, 2006 · Posted in Domestic Policy · Comments Off

Via Kevin, MD, it appears that Americans are in favor of government-mandated wellness programs.

Let’s think about this for a minute: Mandated exercise? Do you want the government in your refrigerator?

Here’s my dirty little secret: I have a weakness for powdered sugar mini-donuts. I’m not obese, not even overweight. But I love those mini-donuts on occasion. Will the donut police haul me away, raise my health insurance premiums, deny me coverage?

Before we’re so quick to shout out for wellness mandates as a matter of law, let’s stop and think about how far that can go. Big Brother will be watching — are you ready for that?

John Edwards Answers Blogger Questions in Iowa. I really like this concept of having bloggers and vloggers in this kind of a setting so that we can watch these sessions unedited and without commentary.

41

According to this, a score of 41 means:

31-50 points: Your libertarian credentials are obvious. Doubtlessly you will become more extreme as time goes on.

That sounds about right. Doc Searls scored a 44. What’s yours?

Gerald R. Ford 1913-2006

December 27, 2006 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off

Former President Gerald Ford dies at 93

I don’t know why, but December always seems to be the month that prominent elders pass on. Although not a fan of Mr. Ford during his Presidency, I did come to respect him in his post-presidential years, as well as Mrs. Ford. RIP, Mr. Ford…your place in history will be unfortunately marked by your pardon of Richard Nixon, but you certainly did less harm to this country than those who came behind you.

Why I don’t trust them

December 22, 2006 · Posted in Bush Administration, Election 2008 · Comments Off

Selective Service to test the draft, but:

Meanwhile, the secretary for Veterans Affairs said that “society would benefit” if the U.S. were to bring back the draft and that it shouldn’t have any loopholes for anyone who is called to serve. Secretary Jim Nicholson later issued a statement saying he does not support reinstituting a draft.

How exactly society benefits from taking its young men and sending them to Iraq as cannon fodder is a mystery to me.

They cannot have my son for this stupid, ill-conceived war for oil. Make no mistake: I will risk my citizenship in this great country to keep them from demanding my sons for the evil that Bush and his administration has wrought in this world.

Does anyone really believe that they are testing the draft but don’t support it? Just more lies. Damn lies.
